Turas Fíona Returns this May Part of Blas na Bealtaine

This May, Turas Fíona returns to Daróg Wine Bar as part of Blas na Bealtaine, A Taste of Galway, a month-long celebration of Galway’s vibrant food culture and culinary talent.

On Monday, 11th May from 7pm to 9pm, Daróg invites guests to explore the Wines of Central Europe with Daróg owner and Michelin Sommelier of the Year 2025, Zsolt Lukács, joined by Galway-based food and wine writer Cathal McBride.

This special evening will focus on the character, diversity and heritage of Central European wines, a region close to Zsolt’s own roots and one that continues to shape Daróg’s wine philosophy. Guests will enjoy a curated wine flight of five wines, paired with a cheese board, while Zsolt and Cathal share insights into the regions, grape varieties and winemaking approaches, alongside reflections on the relationship between wine and food.

Based in Galway, Cathal McBride is a member of the Irish Food Writers’ Guild, served as the weekly wine columnist for the Business Post and is a judge for the Food and Wine Restaurant of the Year awards. A food, wine and travel writer with a passion for all types of gastronomy, wine and spirits, he draws on his years of experience, offering insights to help break down barriers of accessibility so that everyone can enjoy the wonders of the wine world.

Turas Fíona (Irish: Wine Journey) is Daróg’s ongoing wine talk and tasting series, created as a space for curiosity, conversation and discovery. Each event offers a deeper look at wine through the stories of regions, producers and traditions.

Blas na Bealtaine, organised as part of Galway’s seasonal food festivals, brings together some of the region’s best restaurants and hospitality venues to create unique dining and tasting experiences throughout the month of May.

Tickets are €60 per person and include a wine flight of five wines and cheese board. Tickets are available here
