Ár Scéal - Our Story
Daróg – A love of wine. A passion for food. A connection to place
Daróg Wine Bar (Irish: small oak tree) opened its doors in July 2023 in the heart of Galway city. Daróg is a place built around sharing good wine, food, and conversation. Brought to life by husband-and-wife team Zsolt and Edel Lukács, it’s a space shaped by shared passions — for wine, food, and art.
Zsolt, a sommelier with twelve years’ experience at the Michelin-starred Aniar Restaurant, has curated a wine list that celebrates small, artisan producers working organically and biodynamically. This dedication has earned Daróg several accolades, including Best Wine Experience in Connaught & All-Ireland at the Irish Restaurant Association Awards (2024), and Best Wine Experience in Connaught (2023 & 2024) and Best Wine Experience in Ireland (2024) at the Food & Wine Awards.
In 2025, Daróg received a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand, while Zsolt was named MICHELIN Sommelier of the Year for Great Britain & Ireland. The bar was also recognised by Wine Spectator with an Award of Excellence, and named Wine Experience of the Year by Georgina Campbell.
Edel, with over fifteen years of design and marketing experience working with top-tier restaurants, channels her passion for food, art, and the Irish language into Daróg.
The kitchen is led by Head Chef Stiofán Feeney, a Connemara native with experience in acclaimed kitchens including Aroma in Rome, Core by Clare Smyth in London, and Aniar in Galway. He previously led the kitchen at Ballynahinch Castle’s Fisherman’s Pub and represented Ireland at the Young Chef Young Waiter World Finals. Stiofán’s cooking is defined by precision, focus, and a deep respect for west coast ingredients.
Daróg’s commitment to sustainability has also been recognised with Star Wine List’s Best Sustainable Wine List Award (2023/2024).
In the vibrant and culturally rich heart of Galway, where English and Irish intertwine seamlessly, Daróg proudly celebrates the Irish language. Edel’s passion for the language is reflected in the details — from signage to menus and the warm fáilte that greets every guest. In 2025, Daróg was honoured at Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh, receiving the Tourism Award (sponsored by Fáilte Ireland) for its use and promotion of Irish.

Daróg Wine List
At Daróg, we take great pride in offering a wine list that reflects our commitment to excellence, sustainability, and the artistry of winemaking. Our selection is carefully curated to showcase the craftsmanship of small Artisan producers who share our passion for organic, biodynamic, and sustainable practices.
Our diverse collection embodies the dedication of these producers, who strive to create wines that resonate with the terroir and the environment in which they are cultivated. From modern funky to classic wines, each wine on our list tells a story of tradition, innovation, and a profound respect for nature. We present an extensive array of wines available by the glass, made possible through the innovative Coravin system.
Our menus are printed on recycled paper derived from post-consumer waste, created with residual grape materials and powered entirely by 100% green energy sources.
