Edel McMahon & Zsolt Lukacs outside Daróg wine bar in Galway city

Ár Scéal - Our Story

Daróg is a labour of love for husband-and-wife team Zsolt Lukács & Edel McMahon-Lukács. Zsolt, a sommelier for twelve years in the Michelin-starred Aniar Restaurant, has carefully curated a wine list that promotes unique wines from small producers off the beaten track.

And Edel, with over fifteen years of design and marketing experience working with top-tier restaurants including Aniar, Cava Bodega, Armorica and il Vicolo, is channeling her passion for food and art into Daróg.

The Kitchen is led by Attila Galambos, the three-time finalist in the prestigious Euro Toques Ireland and former sous chef for Aniar. Originally from Hungary, Attila combines his culinary experience in France, Japan, Denmark and Ireland with local suppliers and produce to guarantee that this “small oak tree” stays true to its roots, in the West of Ireland.

Daróg wine bar is nestled in the heart of Galway city, where the rich tapestry of culture seamlessly weaves English and Irish together, making our city a proud and vibrant bilingual haven. Edel and Zsolt are passionate supporters of the language and are dedicated to weaving the beauty of the Irish language into the essence of Daróg.

Daróg is open 6 days a week, Tuesday to Sunday.

Daróg Wine List

At Daróg, we take great pride in offering a wine list that reflects our commitment to excellence, sustainability, and the artistry of winemaking. Our selection is carefully curated to showcase the craftsmanship of small Artisan producers who share our passion for organic, biodynamic, and sustainable practices.

Our diverse collection embodies the dedication of these producers, who strive to create wines that resonate with the terroir and the environment in which they are cultivated. From modern funky to classic wines, each wine on our list tells a story of tradition, innovation, and a profound respect for nature. We present an extensive array of wines available by the glass, made possible through the innovative Coravin system.

Our menus are printed on recycled paper derived from post-consumer waste, created with residual grape materials and powered entirely by 100% green energy sources.
