Emer Whelan Unveils Lignis: A Contemporary Exploration of Wood, Geometry, and Colour
Galway-based artist Emer Whelan presents her latest body of work, Lignis, a solo exhibition that reimagines the tradition of woodcraft through the lens of digital precision and contemporary design. Using a CO₂ laser cutter, Whelan transforms wood into finely detailed geometric compositions, blending structure with softness and craftsmanship with innovation.
Influenced by minimalist architecture, Scandinavian design, and the natural patterns of the Irish landscape, Lignis reflects Whelan’s deep respect for material and form. Each piece is rendered in a curated palette of bold and pastel colours, offering a striking contrast to the warmth and grain of the wood beneath.
“Lignis is about harmony—between nature and machine, order and expression,” Whelan says. “Wood holds memory. With this process, I’m adding another layer to it.”
The exhibition will run from Tuesday the 6th of May to Monday the 30th of June at Daróg.
All pieces in 'Lignis' are available for purchase through the wine bar. For Sale enquiries please email: darogwinebar@gmail.com
